Sharing the Space

Pastor Terry Kyllo welcoming some St James Episcopal members

Our halls are not exactly ready for "guests", but that's OK.

Well, the roof is in place and just in time, too, what with September raining on us in more ways than one! Yes, we still have a huge pile of “stuff” in our hallways, because the rooms with outside walls are not yet ready to use, with some windows not in place and walls not finished off.

BUT the bigger “good rain” that has come our way is an opportunity to share our space with the congregation of the St. James Episcopal Church! Their building on State Street in Sedro-Woolley was built 103 years ago and according to Pastor Terry Kyllo, they have some reason to believe that the concrete that makes up the foundation and walls is degrading from within, leading to a safety issue. So, until a structural evaluation is completed, they have asked to use our sanctuary for their worship during the next few months. And of course, we warmly welcome them.

In a newsletter, our Pastor Marilyn shared that as she walked across the parking lot hearing the Episcopalian congregation singing a hymn, she felt as though a fresh breeze was blowing in through the (open) roof above-—open because on that first Sunday they worshipped in our space, we actually had no roof! She said, “It was if the Holy Spirit was wooshing in to do a dance between the songs of the two congregations.”

It’s an exciting time. We are thankful for the life and spirit of our new friends. We are reminded of the wonderful hymn from our “Faith We Sing” hymnal:

Together we serve, united by love,
Inviting God’s world to the glorious feast.
We offer a home to those who will come,
Our hands quick to help, our hearts ready to dare.
Welcome!
